How Norway engineered world’s highest electric vehicle adoption rate
Norway is nearing the elimination of gasoline and diesel cars, with electric vehicles (EVs) accounting for 95.9% of new registrations in 2025, up from 88.9% in 2024. A record 179,550 new passenger cars were registered, driven by government policies and tax incentives. Tesla saw an 89% increase in registrations in December, contrasting with declines in other European markets. Norway's EV success is attributed to decades of consistent policymaking, financial incentives, and a clean energy grid, making EV ownership attractive and practical.
