Is a Copper Shortage Coming? 👀

    CONTEXT

Copper is gaining attention as supply struggles to keep pace with growing demand from power grids, electrification, renewable energy and AI data centres.

The world hasn’t run out of copper, but the longer-term outlook is tightening. New mines can take years to develop, while existing producers face declining ore grades, rising costs and operational disruptions.

That makes TGB, formerly Taseko Mines, particularly interesting.

The company recently rebranded as Trekor Metals to reflect its growing business and expanded North American asset base. With Gibraltar already producing and Florence Copper ramping up, Trekor is evolving into a multi-asset producer just as concerns over future copper supply are intensifying.

The timing could prove significant. If copper becomes increasingly scarce, dependable production from stable North American operations may become even more valuable.

    MY TRADE

This remains an open position in my Longbridge portfolio.

The stock has pushed through the psychological $9 level after repeatedly testing it. I’m now watching whether that former resistance can become support.

    TAKEAWAY

A potential copper shortage supports the broader thesis, but a strong commodity story should not replace company-level research.

For now, I’m letting the trade play out while watching whether copper’s momentum and Trekor’s operational progress can support another leg higher.

is one I’m watching closely after its latest Q1 results. I do think the latest earnings gave the trade a stronger fundamental backing.

Taseko reported a stronger quarter, helped by Gibraltar production and the early contribution from Florence Copper. Gibraltar produced 30 million pounds of copper, up 50% YoY, while Florence is now starting to ramp up after producing its first copper cathode.

What I like is that this is not just a copper price story. There is actual operational progress behind the move. That said, I’m still watching the risks closely, especially cost pressure and whether Florence can ramp smoothly.

For now, I’m holding and watching whether the earnings momentum can help TGB recover closer to my entry.

TGB reports earnings today, so the copper nerves are officially activated.

Going into this one, I’m watching the Florence Copper ramp-up, stronger Gibraltar output, and whether solid copper prices are helping the story. The setup looks interesting, but costs still matter, especially with diesel staying a headwind.

So for now, my pre-earnings mood is: cautiously optimistic with a side of suspense. 👀⛏️📈

Taseko Mines ($Taseko Mines(TGB.US)) finally harvested the first copper cathodes at their Florence facility in Arizona. This is a huge milestone as it’s the first new US greenfield copper production in almost 17 years. Even with the current market volatility, I’m bullish on the long-term demand for copper. Low-cost production like theirs is exactly what the supply chain needs right now.

Let's see how this trade plays out! 🤞💰
