Musk will likely get what he wants from the $Apple(AAPL.US) App Store without the hassle of a lawsuit. Give it two weeks to sort out.
While Apple has a right to run their store, I've learned the hard way never bet against Elon. My guess is the outcome will be Apple decides to mention Grok in the “Must-Have Apps” section and in the “Today” tab. Even though they don't have to make the accommodation, they likely will to avoid the headache of a lawsuit.Level set and let’s look at the App Store rankings, which change day to day.➡️Top productivity is ChatGPT and Grok is #2.➡️Top overall apps have ChatGPT #1, Grok #6, Gemini #64.➡️It’s clear iPhone users are loving Grok.➡️The issue is the curated sections of the App Store. ➡️The “Must-Have Apps” has ChatGPT at #7 out of 21. Grok did not make the list.➡️Separately, in the “Today” tab there are two banners for ChatGPT, nothing for Grok.Big picture, it’s Apple’s store. I believe they can do what they want to. They have commercial deals with OpenAI and Google that pay to be built into Safari and Apple Intelligence. Most likely those deals include preferential treatment in the App Store. That upper legal hand doesn't matter when it comes to locking horns with Musk.Source: Gene Munster
