BABA Return RateStronger SGD🇸🇬: What It Means for Your Wallet & Portfolio
I was reading the article “Explains: Why the Singdollar is hitting record highs against some Asian currencies amid Iran war” on CNA dated 21 April 2026, which detailed the factors behind the currency’s strength and how it is managed against the USD. After going through the analysis, here are my thoughts on what this actually means for us and which stocks could stand to benefit.
A stronger SGD is a double-edged sword. It boosts purchasing power, making imports (food, fuel) and overseas travel cheaper, helping to ease inflation. However, it can squeeze margins for exporters as their goods become pricier for foreign buyers.
Who stands to gain?🤔
Blue Chips:
❤️DBS/OCBC/UOB: Benefit from a robust economy and capital inflows.
❤️SIA/SATS: Lower USD-denominated fuel costs and more travel demand.
Mid-Caps:
❤️Sheng Siong: Lower costs on imported food products.
❤️Vicom: Shielded from volatility with purely domestic revenue.
Look for companies with high domestic revenue or heavy reliance on USD-priced imports! 🇸🇬
