Amazon (AMZN) smashed Q2 2026 expectations by crossing $200.6 billion in quarterly revenue (up 20% YoY) and posting an operating income of $27.5 billion. AWS surged 37% to $42.2 billion, proving that enterprise AI demand is driving massive cloud acceleration. With custom silicon like Trainium scaling fast, AWS is firing on all cylinders.
However, heavy spending remains a major talking point. Amazon raised its 2026 cash capital expenditure guidance to roughly $220 billion to fund essential data center expansion. While this aggressive investment temporarily pressures free cash flow, the massive $496 billion AWS order backlog shows that future capacity is already heavily pre-sold.
The Street remains overwhelmingly bullish with a consensus target around $318–$325, viewing short-term cash flow friction as a worthwhile trade-off. For long-term investors, Amazon’s dominant e-commerce scale combined with a booming cloud and AI infrastructure roadmap makes it a premier portfolio compounder.
