This year's theme is price cuts. The overall price of China's B-segment sedans has fallen below the 200,000 yuan mark, with some aggressive models slashing nearly 150,000 yuan. A long-established price line has been broken.
The 11th-generation Hyundai Sonata was launched in Beijing, with the 1.5T version starting at 139,800 yuan. A B-segment sedan measuring 4,945mm in length and with a wheelbase of 2,875mm is now available for less than 140,000 yuan. Even the N Line version, equipped with a 2.0T engine and numerous sporty features, can be purchased for just over 160,000 yuan. Representative joint-venture mid-size sedans are now priced similarly to past joint-venture A-segment models (such as the Ford Focus) after terminal market discounts of 30,000 to 40,000 yuan. For example, the 2024 Volkswagen Passat 280TSI Business Edition is quoted at 136,900 yuan at a 4S store in Beijing's Haidian District, 45,000 yuan cheaper than the official guide price. Besides the Sonata and Passat, core models in the joint-venture B-segment market like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Teana have all seen significant price drops.
BBA (BMW, Benz, Audi) has also slashed prices aggressively. Two BMW fuel-powered models, the X1 and 2 Series, are now discounted by up to 40%. Second-tier luxury brands are offering even steeper discounts—the Cadillac XT5 has been reduced by 100,000 yuan across the board, while the Infiniti QX55, originally priced at around 450,000 yuan, now sells for just 250,000 yuan, equivalent to a 45% discount.
