Let me share my perspective, having been in the automotive industry for over a decade. For women entering this field, the main positions available in vehicle manufacturers are:
In R&D, most roles involve system management rather than frontline development, which depends more on one's specialization.
In the quality department, women can work in supplier quality or system management.
The project management department also has some positions suitable for women.
The manufacturing department, however, is mostly male-dominated and not very suitable for women.
Of course, there are also supporting departments like finance and human resources.
The "2023 New Energy Vehicle Mid-to-High-End Talent Trend Insight Report" shows that the male-to-female ratio in the new energy vehicle industry is 8.5:1.5, with women mostly concentrated in human resources and project management. Only 7.02% of women work in R&D and design. As new energy vehicle products increasingly focus on user experience details, female perspectives in design and communication—such as exterior, interior, and smart driving experience—are likely to gain more attention from automakers.
