Various investment classics tell us that moats include economies of scale, cost advantages, network effects, patents, etc., but I don't recall reading any book that mentions the decisive role of national strength in the moats of multinational corporations. Rarely have I seen individual stock analyses of companies like IBM, TSM, MSFT, Google, AAPL, or even future OpenAI mention the so-called moat built under the guise of national security, yet this factor might be one of the most decisive ones.
