At the 2024 IAA Transportation Exhibition, Bosch showcased innovative solutions for the commercial vehicle industry. As a pillar of the economy, the sustainable development of freight transport relies on alternative drive technologies. Bosch is expanding its product portfolio with diverse drive technologies, focusing on technological openness, and actively shaping the transformation of logistics.
Bosch expects a slight increase in sales in the mobility sector, aiming for global sales to exceed 80 billion euros by 2029. To seize opportunities in freight growth and drive transformation, starting from January 2025, Bosch will consolidate key capabilities into a new business unit led by Jan-Oliver Röhrl, Executive Vice President responsible for commercial vehicle powertrains. This will create added value for customers, improve collaboration, and make commercial vehicles more efficient and safer.
Bosch predicts that by 2030, around 20% of newly registered commercial vehicles over 6 tons will be battery-electric, with 3% being fuel cell vehicles. By 2035, one-third of commercial vehicles will be battery-electric, one-tenth will use fuel cells, and hydrogen engines will also hit the road. However, Germany and Europe need to rapidly expand electric charging and hydrogen refueling infrastructure.
Assistance systems are also a crucial part of Bosch's commercial vehicle strategy. "Lane Keep Assist" can prevent about one-eighth of heavy truck accidents, and "Electronic Horizon" helps save energy and reduce consumption. With the shift toward software-defined mobility, Bosch provides digital solutions for logistics through its digital service platform$Loews(L.US)S and the "Marketplace" in collaboration with Amazon Web Services. Bosch is also developing network solutions to reduce downtime.
