President of the German Metal and Electrical Industry Employers' Association, Stefan Wolf, predicts the loss of 250,000 to 300,000 jobs in the next five years. The industry is in a structural crisis, plagued by issues such as energy prices, taxes, and bureaucratic burdens.
Wolf calls for increased flexibility in working hours and mentions that the retirement of the baby boomer generation could reduce job positions. Currently, collective wage agreement negotiations are underway, with employers' proposed salary increases criticized by unions as "too little, too late, too long." The unions are demanding significant pay raises, and warning strikes are expected by the end of October.
