This plug-in hybrid pickup truck is designed to challenge Brazil's best-selling Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. The Shark is equipped with BYD's Blade Battery, offering a pure electric range of 100 kilometers and a combined range of over 840 kilometers. BYD sees Brazil as a key part of its overseas expansion, believing that the country's booming agricultural business will drive its growth, with commercial customers expected to account for around 70% of Shark's sales. Since reservations opened, the Shark has received 1,000 to 1,500 orders, far exceeding the previous-generation Yuan Pro. BYD expects the Shark's annual sales to be between 10,000 and 15,000 units, making it one of Brazil's top five best-selling mid-size pickups.
Currently, BYD ranks tenth in Brazil's auto sales, but its goal is to break into the top five by 2027. BYD has invested over $1 billion in building a factory in Brazil, with car assembly expected to begin in December 2024 and full production to be achieved in the first half of 2025.
