$Joby Aviation(JOBY.US)The low-altitude economy is attracting increasing attention, but the long-term investment value of the helicopter market remains uncertain.

On January 2, 2025, Joby Aviation's stock price was $7.905, with a market capitalization of $6.048 billion, in a quarterly loss state, and analysts gave it a moderate buy rating. In comparison, Archer Aviation's stock price was $9.38, with a market capitalization of $3.989 billion; Vertical Aerospace's stock price was $10.81, with a market capitalization of $241 million. All these companies face profitability challenges, and Lilium N.V. even filed for bankruptcy in November 2024 due to a broken capital chain.

In terms of technology and products, Joby Aviation adopts a lift-and-cruise design and plans to launch an air taxi in 2025, with a four-seat model having a range of 87 nautical miles. Archer Aviation's "Midnight" eVTOL has received orders from the U.S. Air Force. Lilium N.V.'s jet is equipped with 30 engines and is expected to be operational by 2026. Vertical Aerospace's VX4 aircraft has a range of 160 kilometers and a speed of 240 kilometers per hour after charging.

Regarding market prospects, Joby Aviation is expanding its business in collaboration with companies like Uber. Archer Aviation has secured commercial and military orders. Vertical Aerospace is advancing flight test approvals with the UK Civil Aviation Authority and has pre-orders. Meanwhile, Lilium N.V.'s development is hindered by funding issues.

In terms of development strategy, Joby Aviation is partnering with Toyota to build a factory, with plans to start production and deliveries between 2024 and 2025. Although Joby has advantages in its collaboration with Toyota, market expansion, and technological R&D, the eVTOL industry is still in its early stages, facing challenges in technology, market, and regulations, with significant uncertainties ahead. Therefore, investing in the low-altitude economy requires in-depth research, long-term tracking, and careful consideration before making decisions. It cannot be simply assumed that Joby will become the next Tesla of the skies.
