Trump hints at not continuing to raise tariffs on China

Trump told reporters at the White House regarding tariffs, "I don't want them to go higher, because at a certain point, people stop buying things," "So, I might not want to raise tariffs further, or even to that level. I might want to lower tariffs, because you know, you want people to buy things, and at a certain point, they just won't."

Trump stated that since the imposition of tariffs, China has remained in contact with the U.S. and expressed optimism about reaching an agreement. (Reuters sources noted that while communication has been maintained, high-level smooth exchanges conducive to an agreement are largely absent.)

"We have a deal ready for TikTok, but it depends on China's stance, so we'll delay the deal until this matter is resolved in some way."
