Actually, $Disney(DIS.US) is quite smart. The content provider exchanges equity for technology and traffic. Disney uses $1 billion in cash to buy OpenAI equity and obtains exclusive/priority content authorization for Sora, which means two revenue paths—equity appreciation and content commercialization. It’s a bet on both technology and future distribution channels (but there might be a reason why OpenAI can’t come up with the money😂). For the market, this is a milestone for the entertainment industry’s deep embrace of AI.
But I won’t follow Disney’s move here. I’ll step back first—the speculative flavor is too strong.
