I watched the interview with NASA's new administrator Jared Isaacman on his first day in office, summarizing his extended explanation of the presidential executive order on space.
1. Establish permanent infrastructure on the Moon (including habitats, power stations, and communication systems). The goal is not just to return to the Moon but to stay there and use it as a stepping stone to Mars.
2. Return to the Moon before China, treating space exploration as a key issue of national security and strategic competition. The space arms race has begun.
3. Develop nuclear energy, as only nuclear power can support human survival during the Moon's long nights and is a necessary technological path for Mars colonization.
4. Transfer some of NASA's authority to the White House to streamline processes, speed up decision-making, and reform NASA's procurement methods to improve efficiency.
5. NASA's new role is to focus on cutting-edge, money-burning technologies like nuclear propulsion, deep-space telescopes, and Mars missions. Mature technologies like rocket launches and lunar landers will be outsourced to private companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin to reduce costs and commercialize.
Rocket Lab stock symbol (RKLB) / SpaceX alternative stock (SATS) / Blue Origin:
The primary logistics system from Earth to orbit, providing pre-positioned capacity for all lunar and deep-space activities; the least dependent on single missions or narratives.
Intuitive Machines stock symbol (LUNR) (I call it Little Moon):
The most focused "last-mile" service provider for the Moon at this stage, responsible for unmanned lunar landings and deliveries; short- to medium-term benefits from commercialization and a multi-supplier strategy.
Redwire Space stock symbol (RDW) (I call it Little Red Line):
A deep-space infrastructure contractor covering energy, communications, and system integration; relies on long-term projects and rolling contracts, not single-mission success. Its aggressive acquisition strategy has led to ugly recent financial statements, putting pressure on the stock price. But long-term bullish on space infrastructure.
