The year-to-date rise in the S&P 500 index has been almost entirely driven by earnings growth. However, if we conduct the same earnings analysis on the Nasdaq 100 index, the Mag 7 index, or even small-cap indices, we find that the valuations of these indices have actually contracted significantly.
