
Today I took a taxi home. The driver, around 60 years old, said he owed the bank tens of millions from a failed business venture, was under a “restriction on high consumption” for 2 years, and now drives for Didi 16 hours a day in Shenzhen. His spirit is truly admirable. I suggested he might as well retire to his hometown, as the cost of living in Shenzhen is high. He said as long as he's alive, he has to think about turning things around. Thinking about it, life is determined by fate, luck, and circumstance.
