Capital Market Pricing: Techno-Optimism, Macro-Pessimism

Elon Musk is a techno-optimist. He announced that SpaceX plans to launch 10,000 times a year, build infrastructure in space, and establish an "orbital data center." Musk also believes that humanoid robots are infinite money-printing machines.

The feeling Trump gives people is completely different. Waging trade wars, capturing Maduro alive, demanding Greenland, and even every speech and every statement bring unease and uncertainty to the world — even for many of his supporters.

Musk and Trump represent two starkly different trends today: micro-level techno-optimism and macro-level political-economic pessimism.

The capital market has clearly priced in these two trends: betting on gold and precious metals over the past year prices in macro-pessimism; large-scale investment in new technologies like AI and semiconductors prices in techno-optimism.
