Here's a preview for next week, folks. Next week, we have the US core PCE.
First, Monday is Presidents' Day in the US, so US markets will be closed for a day.
Then, early Thursday morning, the Federal Reserve will release the minutes from its last monetary policy meeting. They held steady in January. These minutes will give us a look at how the Fed internally views the current situation and future interest rate policy.
In the evening, we'll also have last week's jobless claims numbers to watch.
Finally, on Friday, there's the heavyweight US December Core PCE Price Index. This gives a more comprehensive picture of US inflation than CPI and is the Fed's most-watched inflation gauge. Market expectations are at 3%. Not too optimistic, but yesterday's CPI came in lower. So, will this PCE reading also be much better than expected? If so, it would provide further evidence that US inflation is cooling down.
Released at the same time will be Q4 GDP, personal consumption expenditures, and core PCE, which also need attention.
Alright, I'll update this preview every weekend. Thank you, everyone.
