Pentagon Considers Sending More Warships to Escort Vessels Through Strait of Hormuz

Due to increasing incidents of attacks by Iran, the Pentagon is considering deploying more warships to the Middle East to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command has requested additional destroyers and Marine Corps vessels to help protect commercial shipping along this route, which typically carries about 20% of the world's oil supply. Officials stated that the escort mission may not begin until the threat from Iran is reduced—a process that could take a month or longer, even if U.S. strikes target Tehran's missile and drone capabilities.
