A key capacity move from this roadshow has been realized: Lumentum announced on March 17th the completion of its acquisition of Qorvo's wafer fabrication facility located in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA. The factory is fully operational and equipped with compound semiconductor equipment. Lumentum plans to commence mass production of UHP lasers in early 2028, which is expected to unlock an annualized revenue capacity of $5 billion, forming the core capacity foundation supporting the company's long-term growth. According to property documents from Guilford County, Lumentum acquired Qorvo's integrated facility and two land parcels at 7908 Piedmont Triad Parkway for a total of $18 million, and disclosed the acquisition and its plans for the site at the OFC event. Lumentum has recently achieved several important milestones: receiving a strategic investment from NVIDIA and announcing its inclusion in the S&P 500 index. It is understood that the seller, Qorvo, is headquartered in Greensboro and is a key component supplier for end manufacturers like Apple and Samsung. The company had previously announced plans to close its Greensboro wafer fabrication facility in North Carolina and transfer capacity to a facility near Dallas, as part of a strategic shift towards higher-margin markets such as defense and aerospace.
