Trending Creators in 2025The third launch of Blue Origin's New Glenn (NG-3) was essentially a delivery person who sent the customer's goods to the wrong place, resulting in the goods being damaged.
Although the first stage recovery was successful, there was a second stage failure (payload failure):
The second stage was supposed to perform two burns to place the satellite (AST SpaceMobile BlueBird-7, a direct-to-cell satellite, approximately 6 tons, the 8th network satellite) into a 460 km circular low Earth orbit (LEO) with an inclination of 49°.
The second burn did not complete normally, and the satellite was actually placed into a 154 km (perigee) × 494 km (apogee) orbit with an inclination of 36.1°.
What are the implications for the main stakeholders?
• AST: Short-term delays, insurance coverage, but medium-term network deployment schedule is affected, may switch to other launch providers in the future.
• Blue Origin: Severe reputational damage, flight suspension for rectification, order losses, falling further behind in the race to catch up with SpaceX.
• SpaceX: Reaps the benefits, monopoly strengthened, both pricing power and market share increase.
• RKLB: Benefits in the small to medium launch market, expanded window of opportunity for medium-lift rockets, robust image reinforced.
