Jeff Dean, Chief Scientist at Google for 27 years, has announced his resignation!
$Alphabet - C(GOOG.US)
Alphabet's stock closed down about 4.1% today, with intraday declines exceeding 5%. What the market sees is not just an ordinary executive departure, but a major overhaul of Google's AI power structure.
Worse still, Jeff Dean is not leaving alone. Joining him are three legendary technical figures from Google:
@Sanjay_Ghemawat
— The legendary engineer who co-established the foundation of Google's distributed computing with Jeff Dean;
@OriolVinyalsML
— Vice President of Research at Google DeepMind and lead of the core technology for Gemini;
@quocleix
— Co-founder of Google Brain, and a key driver in large models, AutoML, and neural network architectures.
The four will jointly found an AI company named
@DiscoLoopAI
, with the goal: to use AI to automatically complete the entire scientific research cycle of "propose experiment—run experiment—evaluate results—continue iteration," starting from machine learning and eventually entering the fields of pharmaceuticals, chips, energy, health, and engineering.
On the same day, DeepMind co-founder
@demishassabis
stepped down from daily CEO management duties, taking on the role of Chairman of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist at Alphabet, dedicating more time to AGI strategy and the AI pharmaceutical company Isomorphic Labs.
Logically, XtalPi is doing something similar in vertical industries; AI-driven drug discovery is key! Behind drug discovery lies materials science.
