Intraday short selling in five companies, including UWC Bhd, Inari Amertron Bhd, Guan Chong Bhd, Pentamaster Corporation Bhd, and Pavilion REIT, was suspended after each experienced a drop of at least 15% in share prices. The suspension will be lifted at 8:30 am on Tuesday. This decline is part of a broader market downturn, with significant losses across various indices, attributed to fears of a global trade war.
KUALA LUMPUR (April 7): Intraday short selling in five counters, namely UWC Bhd (KL:UWC), Inari Amertron Bhd (KL:INARI), Guan Chong Bhd (KL:GCB), Pentamaster Corporation Bhd (KL:PENTA) and Pavilion Real Estate Investment Trust (KL:PAVREIT), was suspended on Monday after all five saw an at least 15% drop in their share prices.
UWC was down 19.1% to RM1.62 a share earlier, while Inari was down 15.96% to RM1.59 a share.
Guan Chong was down 15.88% to RM3.01, Pentamaster declined 16% to RM2.11 a share, while Pavilion REIT fell 17% before rebounding to trade 5.44% lower at RM1.39 a unit.
The short selling suspension will be lifted at 8.30am on Tuesday.
The weakness was part of a larger market rout, with 1,207 losers out of 1,423 stocks traded, fuelled by global trade war fears.
The benchmark FBM KLCI was down 5.42%, the FBM 100 down 5.97%, FBM EMAS down 6.02%, FBM HIJRAH down 6.16% while the FBM ACE was down 7.01%.
