International Green Build Conference 2025 to focus on green innovations and foster academic collaborations

PETALING JAYA (June 18): The International Green Build Conference (IGBC) 2025 aims to highlight real-world green innovations, academic collaboration and policy leadership under the theme of “Adaptation Through Sustainable Innovation”. Co-organised by Rehda Institute and GreenRE, the conference will address pressing challenges like climate resilience, flood adaptation, water management, sustainable logistics and waste management through a line-up of speakers from local and international experts on Aug 19 at One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya. “The conference, dedicated to green building and sustainable urban development, is a critical platform for discussing and advancing sustainability and green-thought leadership… This year’s theme reflects a timely focus on climate challenges and Malaysia’s leadership role as president of the UN-Habitat Assembly (2025-2029) [and the chair of Asean this year],” said GreenRE chairman Datuk Seri FD Iskandar during a press conference of the IGBC 2025 preview at Wisma Rehda on Wednesday. The one-day conference will also feature a mini exhibition with over 30 booths that showcase real-world solutions, green innovations and technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions to enhance urban resilience and achieve net-zero targets. Moreover, the organising committee of IGBC 2025 will collaborate with more than 10 Malaysian universities, including Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and Universiti Malaysia Perlis, allocating RM100,000 to sponsor key students and academics to attend the conference and have the opportunity to engage with industry players in the sustainability and green building environment. “We cannot understate the importance of the younger generation in driving forward and understanding the green and sustainable agenda. For the green agenda [to take root], it needs to be inculcated through the universities, especially local universities, to get the students to actively and proactively engage in understanding this very important topic,” said Rehda Institute chairman Datuk Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip during the press conference. He highlighted that allocating funds to encourage the younger generation to become future leaders and champions of the green agenda is a significant investment. “It will take time [to see the impact], but it is definitely the way forward.” The upcoming conference is expected to garner over 800 delegates from various government sectors, industry players, academia and regional experts. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, and Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof have been invited as the guests of honour. There will also be sustainable tours a day after the conference, to bring participants to Merdeka 118, Sunway International School, Gamuda Cove Arboretum and the City of Elmina to experience the green development efforts in these sites.
