Europe probes Chinese bidder in Lisbon railway project over possible market distortion

The European Commission has launched an investigation into China's state-owned CRRC regarding potential market distortion in its bid for railway construction in Lisbon. Preliminary findings suggest that CRRC's Portuguese unit may have benefited from foreign subsidies in its April bid for the new "violet" line. The Commission will conduct an in-depth inquiry under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation to determine if remedies will be accepted, if CRRC will be barred from the bid, or if no objections will be raised. The investigation aims to protect fair competition within the EU market.
