The S&P 500 index initially closed down 0.5%, with the utilities sector down 2.3%, and the industrial, healthcare, real estate, and telecommunications sectors each down more than 1.4%. The technology sector was roughly flat, while the energy sector rose 0.8%.
The Nasdaq 100 index initially closed down 0.4%. Among the constituents, Shopify initially closed down 5.4%, Broadcom down 4.1%, Regeneron Pharma down 4.0%, Strategy down 3.5%, Starbucks down 2.6%, Google A down 1.8%, while PDD rose 2%, ASML ADR rose 2.6%, Doordash rose 3.4%, Applovin rose 4%, and Synopsys rose 4.8%
