The S&P 500 Index closed roughly flat, with the healthcare sector down about 0.9%, the consumer staples sector down 0.8%, the technology sector up 0.3%, the energy sector up 0.3%, and the telecommunications sector up 0.4%.
The Nasdaq 100 Index closed down 0.2%, with component stocks including Intel down 7.7%, ON Semiconductor down 4.3%, Micron down 3.5%, ASML ADR down 2.9%, while Meta rose 2.5% and Applovin rose 3.6%.
3M closed down 2.3%, with UnitedHealth, Johnson & Johnson, Amgen, Home Depot, Apple, Merck, Amazon, and others down at least 1.4%, leading the decline among Dow components, while NVIDIA rose 2% and Salesforce rose 4.2%
