Onvo unveils plan to double available battery packs at swap stations in following month

Onvo plans to significantly increase the number of battery packs available for it at battery swap stations over the next month to accommodate the upcoming travel surge during the Chinese New Year holiday and enhance user experience.

The Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) sub-brand today announced its plan to double the number of available battery packs at battery swap stations, aiming to deploy over 8,000 new battery packs. The initiative is expected to be completed by mid-January 2026.

The brand said that the number of battery packs available for Onvo will then more than double compared to before the plan's implementation.

This will meet the peak demand around the Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, holiday and provide a leading, convenient charging experience for the rapidly growing user base in the long term, Onvo said.

The work commenced in November, with over 800 new battery packs already deployed, according to the brand.

The 2026 Chinese New Year holiday runs from February 15 to 23, with travel peaks typically occurring at the holiday's start and end.

This initiative will deliver long-term value to both existing and new Onvo users while driving the brand's growth, Onvo said.

The move suggests Onvo's battery production capacity constraints may have been resolved, enabling the brand to allocate more battery resources to its battery swap stations.

Onvo shares battery swap stations with the Nio main brand, though older stations require retrofitting for compatibility with the Nio sub-brand.

The two brands use different battery pack specifications, necessitating distinct battery units.

Onvo offers 60-kWh and 85-kWh battery packs, while the main Nio brand primarily uses 75-kWh and 100-kWh packs. The main Nio brand also has a limited supply of 150-kWh semi-solid-state battery packs available.

The main Nio brand also previously encountered battery pack production capacity issues following the September 20 launch of the third-generation ES8 SUV (sport utility vehicle).

On September 29, Nio announced it would prioritize the 100-kWh battery pack for third-generation ES8 production over battery swap stations to accelerate the SUV's deliveries.
