According to TrendForce, Dell just told buyers it expect prices to rise sharply by nearly 15% to 20%, potentially taking effect as early as mid-month. The pressure comes on the back of a spike in demand for memory chips, becoming one of the more expensive components in modern PCs.
Memory is expected to form 15% to 18% of a system's total cost, and with AI workloads driving record demand, suppliers have gained the upper hand on pricing.
The trend isn't just isolated to Dell as HP Enterprise also said this week its memory costs are rising at a quick pace, though its management expressed confidence that it can pass those on to customers.
