EVgo accelerates charging rollout with prefabricated skids

The prefabrication concept is implemented in partnership with Miller Electric Company, a Florida-based electrical contractor specialising in complex electrical systems. Under the model, all major charging components are assembled in a controlled factory environment onto a single base frame made from American steel and aluminium before being transported to site. EVgo reports that the approach has reduced average station installation costs by around 15% while also shortening deployment timelines.“The prefabrication model is a win-win for EVgo because we can fast-track infrastructure deployment to meet charging demand and support workforce development in this growing industry,” said Dennis Kish, President of EVgo. Utilising prefabricated modular skids from Miller Electric is key to scaling EVgo’s nationwide network.”EVgo and Miller Electric began working together on prefabrication in 2023. Since then, Miller Electric has expanded capacity at its prefabrication facility in Jacksonville, Florida, where it now employs more than 1,400 people. EVgo says the collaboration supports domestic manufacturing and local job creation alongside network growth. According to Miller Electric, the modular approach also improves consistency and quality by shifting much of the installation work away from individual construction sites.Beyond core charging equipment, the prefabricated skids can integrate additional infrastructure such as lighting, Wi-Fi, security cameras and canopies prior to delivery. EVgo states that prefabricated stations deployed in 2025 are equipped exclusively with 350 kW DC fast chargers and can charge up to 14 vehicles simultaneously, depending on site configuration.Prefabricated EVgo stations are already operational in states including California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Nebraska, New York and Texas, with further sites under development in North Carolina, Utah and other locations.evgo.com
