The tender officially closed in December 2024 and has been revisited twice since to add solar capacity winners.Red Rocket will develop the 240MW Rondebosch, the 240MW Springhaas 1 and the 170MW Springhaas 6 solar schemes at a R532.90/MWh (US$31.70/MWh) tariff. Engie will build the 240MW Corona solar project at R532/MWh. With this announcement, the total capacity procured in the seventh REIPPPP bid window amounts to 3.94GW across 18 projects and the four additional projects will generate investments adding up to R16bn. The previously contracted capacity of 3.05GW had been awarded between December 2024 and July in two batches, first awarding 1.7GW solar and later adding 1.3GW solar procurement. The reason for the staggered awarding is that the bid window had been launched as a 5GW combined procurement targeting 1.8GW solar and 3.2GW wind, but wind undersubscription and solar oversubscription made the government shift the scale and decrease wind capacity in favour of eligible solar bids twice after the tender closed. </div></div>
