The US-Japan group held a meeting to review Japan's $550 billion technology investment project
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Japan-U.S. working group held its first meeting to review preliminary projects under the $550 billion investment agreement between Japan and the United States, exchange opinions on the proposed projects, and confirm that they will continue to maintain close cooperation.
After the discussions of the relevant meeting, the group will submit its opinions to the investment committee led by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and it is expected that U.S. President Trump will make the final decision on which projects will be selected based on the committee's recommendations.
Previously, the United States and Japan reached a trade agreement, in which Japan agreed to invest $550 billion in the U.S. in exchange for the U.S. reducing tariffs on Japan to 15%. The related investments are expected to involve sectors such as semiconductors, critical minerals, and energy
