In Hefei, China, on December 18, 2025, it was announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has successfully connected its groundbreaking energy storage system (ESS) project to the grid. This project has a nameplate capacity of 7.8 gigawatt-hours (GWh). Upon reaching full operation, this ESS will hold the title of the world's largest operational battery energy storage system.
