
Saudi Arabia connects 7.8 GWh energy storage system to grid, set to be world's biggest operational battery.
In Hefei, China, on December 18, 2025, it was announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has successfully connected its groundbreaking energy storage system (ESS) project to the grid. This project has a nameplate capacity of 7.8 gigawatt-hours (GWh). Upon reaching full operation, this ESS will hold the title of the world's largest operational battery energy storage system.
