Japan's JERA secures government subsidy for US ammonia imports

Japan's JERA has secured a 15-year government subsidy to cover the price difference between ammonia and coal, aiming to import ammonia from a planned U.S. plant by 2029. JERA formed a joint venture with CF Industries and Mitsui to build a $4 billion low-carbon ammonia facility in Louisiana. The ammonia will be used to reduce coal usage at JERA's Hekinan power station and other customers. Mitsui will supply 280,000 tons of ammonia annually from Blue Point by fiscal 2030. The subsidy supports Japan's strategy to tackle climate change.
