As 2025 comes to a close, according to the annual review report released by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (388) yesterday, Hong Kong's financial market has achieved remarkable results this year, with the IPO financing amount ranking first globally and the average daily trading volume reaching a historic high. HKEX described 2025 as a year when global investors are returning to the Hong Kong market, and it will continue to optimize the market. Multiple biotech and specialized companies listed The HKEX report shows that the financing amount in Hong Kong in 2025 has significantly increased compared to last year. As of December 19, a total of 106 companies have listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, raising a total of HKD 274.6 billion, with four companies making it to the global top ten IPOs of 2025. During this period, companies listed on the HKEX raised a total of USD 66 billion through refinancing, approximately HKD 513.6 billion. Additionally, since the implementation of Chapter 18A and Chapter 18C of the Listing Rules, a total of 88 biotech and specialized technology companies have listed on the HKEX, reflecting strong investor interest in cutting-edge fields. Trading volume increased by 43% year-on-year in the first 11 months In 2025, multiple markets achieved record trading volumes. The average daily trading volume reached a historic high, with the average daily trading amount in the cash market for the first 11 months of 2025 reaching HKD 230.7 billion, an increase of 43% compared to the same period last year. As of November 30, the average daily number of contracts traded in futures and options reached a new high of 1.69 million contracts, an increase of 8% year-on-year, with stock options being the most actively traded product, averaging about 895,500 contracts per day, up 23% from the same period last year. The exchange-traded products (ETP) market is also growing, with 48 new ETPs listed this year, and the average daily trading volume reached HKD 37.6 billion by the end of last month, doubling compared to the same period last year. The London Metal Exchange (LME) under its umbrella also performed strongly this year, with the average daily trading volume from the beginning of the year to November 30 increasing by 6% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the LME plans to introduce an automatic expiration feature for options in the first half of 2026, with electronic options trading expected to be implemented by the end of the year.
