"Hong Kong Stocks" Hang Seng Index opened high at 5 points, gold mining stocks performed well, SMIC rose over 2%

On the eve of the Christmas holiday, U.S. stocks opened lower but rose throughout the day on Tuesday (23rd), with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing up 79 points, and the S&P 500 index closing up 31 points at 6,909 points, setting a new record high for the closing price. The Hong Kong stock market today (24th) had a half-day session, with the Hang Seng Index opening up 5 points or 0.02%, at 25,780 points; the National Index opening up 8 points or 0.09%, at 8,922 points; and the Hang Seng Tech Index opening up 3 points or 0.07%, at 5,492 points.

According to reports, SMIC (00981.HK) has implemented price increases on some production capacities, with an increase of about 10%. Its stock price opened up 2.1%, making it the best-performing blue-chip stock. Peer Hua Hong (01347.HK) opened up 1.5%.

Technology stocks were generally weak, with Tencent (00700.HK) opening down 0.7%. Alibaba-W (09988.HK) opened down 0.1%, reportedly pushing "Qianwen Zhixue" to enhance AI education. JD.com-SW (09618.HK) opened down 0.2%, with reports of a theft involving 340 million RMB worth of digital equipment at JD's warehouse in France, to which JD responded that the reported loss figures significantly differ from the actual situation. Xiaomi-W (01810.HK) and Meituan-W (03690.HK) opened down 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively. However, NetEase-S (09999.HK) opened up 1.2%.

In the automotive sector, Nio-SW (09866.HK) opened down 0.5%, BYD (01211.HK) opened down 0.6%, and Li Auto-W (02015.HK) opened down 0.2%.

In the financial sector, HSBC (00005.HK) opened up 0.2%, AIA (01299.HK) opened down 0.3%, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (00388.HK) opened down 0.4%.

Gold futures rose above the $4,500 mark, benefiting gold mining stocks, with ZHAOJIN MINING (01818.HK) opening up 1.4% and Zijin Mining (02899.HK) opening up 1.3%.

In terms of individual stocks, Cathay Pacific (00293.HK) Chairman He Yili will retire in May next year, with Bai Deli taking over, and the stock price opened down 0.5%. Baidu (02315.HK) was added to the Hong Kong Stock Connect eligible securities list, and its stock price opened up 1.1%. As for Techtronic Industries (00669.HK), it opened down 1.3%, making it the worst-performing blue-chip stock. CSPC Pharmaceutical (01093.HK) also opened down 1.1%
