South Korean stock market rises 76% for the year, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix hit record highs

The South Korean stock market has concluded its trading for the year, with the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (Kospi) closing at 4,214 points on the last trading day of the year, down 6 points or 0.15%. For the year, it has risen a total of 1,814 points or 75.6%.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix rose 0.3% and 1.7% today, both reaching historical highs during the session. Battery stock LG Energy Solution canceled a 39 trillion South Korean won supply contract with the U.S. company Freundenberg Battery Power System, causing its stock price to drop by 3%. Shipbuilding stocks Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean fell by 2.7% and 1.7%, respectively.
