That system matters as much now as it always has. Markets move faster, information is cheaper and noisier, and attention is commoditized. That may sound like a description of our moment, but it could have been written at almost any point in Buffett's lifetime.
The hardest problems investors face - judgment, discipline, temperament - have not changed. Buffett understood this early. His response was not to chase speed or complexity but to build structures that reduce mistakes, personally and institutionally.
Buffett's enduring lessons for investors
Individual investors cannot replicate Berkshire Hathaway - but they can borrow from it.
1. Time is an asset: Buffett treated time as an asset - not a variable to manage around. Compounding rewards patience only if investors avoid self-inflicted interruptions - unnecessary losses early, premature gains later.

4. Institutional patience beats individual brilliance: Berkshire Hathaway was designed to reduce the odds of bad decisions. Decentralized operations, a strong balance sheet, modest leverage and a culture of trust all served one purpose: preserving judgment under stress.
