On the first trading day of the new year, Hong Kong stocks opened higher, with the Hang Seng Index up 86 points or 0.3%, at 25,717 points; the National Index up 36 points or 0.4%, at 8,949 points; and the Hang Seng Tech Index up 31 points or 0.6%, at 5,547 points.
Domestic GPU company Birun (06082.HK) debuted at HKD 35.7, up 82% from the listing price of HKD 19.6. Hua Hong (01347.HK) finalized its A-share fundraising of RMB 7.556 billion, acquiring Hualiwei while excluding cash components. The stock opened flat at HKD 74.3. SMIC (00981.HK) opened flat at HKD 71.45.
In other tech stocks, Tencent (00700.HK) and Alibaba (09988.HK) opened up 0.3%, Kuaishou (01024.HK) opened down 0.2%, Meituan (03690.HK) opened flat at HKD 103.3, JD.com (09618.HK) and Baidu (09888.HK) opened up 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively, while NetEase (09999.HK) opened up 2.5%. JD Health (06618.HK), Bilibili (09626.HK), and New Oriental (09901.HK) opened up between 1.4% and 1.6%.
In the automotive sector, Lei Jun indicated that Xiaomi (01810.HK) YU7 has delivered over 150,000 units in its first six months, 2.3 times that of SU7 during the same period. Additionally, it was reported that Xiaomi will launch four new models this year, including two extended-range SUVs. Xiaomi opened up 0.3% at HKD 39.4. Geely (00175.HK) saw a 39% year-on-year increase in total vehicle sales last year, opening flat at HKD 17.9. Leapmotor (09863.HK) delivered over 60,000 units in December last year, a 42% year-on-year increase, and opened up 1.1%. Furthermore, BYD (01211.HK) opened up 0.7%, Li Auto (02015.HK) and Nio (09866.HK) opened up 1.5% and 1.4%, respectively, while XPeng (09868.HK) opened down 0.7%.
In the financial sector, HSBC Holdings (00005.HK) opened down 0.5% at HKD 121.8, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (00388.HK) opened up 0.3%, and AIA (01299.HK) opened up 2% at HKD 81.5. Among mainland property stocks, China Overseas (00688.HK) and R&F Properties (01109.HK) opened up 1% and 1.1%, respectively. On the first day of the New Year's holiday, hotel bookings in mainland China surged over threefold, with Trip.com (09961.HK) opening up 2.6%. In the pharmaceutical sector, BeiGene (06160.HK) opened up 2.8%, while WuXi Biologics (02269.HK) opened down 1.1%
