Mai Meijuan: Has submitted opinions to the dedicated team regarding the long-term resettlement of residents in Hongfu Garden
The Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Mak Mei-juan, met with the media regarding the management issues of Hong Fuk Court in Tai Po. When asked about the long-term placement plan for residents of Hong Fuk Court, Mak stated that she had heard the opinions expressed by district councilors at the Tai Po District Council meeting, including suggestions for original area placement and whether the funds from the assistance fund are sufficient for placement. She indicated that she has conveyed the district councilors' opinions to the Deputy Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, and believes that the group led by the Deputy Secretary will also consider the opinions and wishes of the residents expressed by the district councilors and propose some plans for the residents as soon as possible.
Reports have indicated that some residents of Hong Fuk Court currently living in youth hostels have been evicted. In response, Mak stated that some residents need to stay in the youth hostels for a longer period as it takes time to find suitable places for mid-term accommodation. The operator of the youth hostel has also indicated that they will handle cases on a discretionary basis according to the actual situation, and will assist residents in finding suitable mid-term accommodation arrangements.
The Lands Tribunal has recently officially approved the government's application to dissolve the existing management committee of the Hong Fuk Court Owners' Corporation and appointed Heung On Management Limited, a subsidiary of the Hysan Development Company, as the appointed manager of the estate. Mak stated that Heung On will hand over responsibilities with the previous management company, receive all documents related to the corporation currently held by the other party, and clarify the legal responsibilities of the owners or the corporation in different contracts. She emphasized that the appointment of the estate manager does not replace the owners but rather clarifies the information and then communicates it to the owners for them to make decisions
