India steel exports grow by a third between April-December, govt data shows

India's finished steel exports surged by 33.3% to 4.8 million metric tons in the first nine months of the financial year, while imports reached 4.65 million metric tons. The government imposed a safeguard duty on certain steel imports to limit cheaper shipments from China. Domestic steel production was 117.6 million metric tons, with consumption at 119.3 million metric tons. In January, major steelmakers increased prices of hot-rolled and cold-rolled coils by up to 2,000 rupees per metric ton.
