Bloomberg cited informed sources revealing that Chinese officials have informed major mainland tech companies, including Alibaba Group (09988.HK)(BABA.US), to prepare for purchasing H200 artificial intelligence chips from NVIDIA (NVDA.US).

The news states that Chinese regulatory authorities have recently approved Alibaba, Tencent Holdings (00700.HK), and ByteDance in principle to enter the next stage of procurement preparations, allowing these companies to discuss details such as actual demand quantities. As one of the conditions for granting approval, Beijing will encourage companies to simultaneously procure a certain number of domestic chips, although no specific ratio or quantity has been set yet.

The news has positively impacted related stocks, with NVIDIA's U.S. stock price rising over 1%, and TSMC's American Depositary Shares (TSM.US) also increasing by 2%
