Kuwait awards $3.3 bln sewage plant contract to Chinese group

Kuwait has awarded a $3.3 billion contract to China State Construction Engineering Corp to build the North Kabd sewage treatment plant, the largest in the country. The project, approved by the Central Agency for Public Tenders, is part of broader China-backed developments in Kuwait, including a $4 billion port project. The plant will process up to 1 million cubic meters of wastewater daily and will be designed, built, operated, and maintained by the Chinese company over a 10-year period. Kuwait faces challenges in reusing treated wastewater due to infrastructure limitations.
