Xie Zhanhuan: It is hoped that by 2035, the proportion of electricity purchased in the mainland can reach 60% to 70%
The Legislative Council's Environment Affairs Committee held a meeting, where some members anticipated that electricity prices would not decrease but rather increase in the future, leading to a continuous rise in the basic living costs for citizens. When asked about the government's long-term plans to reduce electricity prices, including purchasing electricity from the mainland, Secretary for the Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan stated that there are plans to purchase more electricity from the mainland, with the hope that by 2035, the proportion of zero-carbon electricity imported from the mainland to Hong Kong could increase to 60% to 70%.
Tse Chin-wan added that there are different financing methods for electricity supply, and discussions will be held with the mainland regarding electricity prices for Hong Kong. The stability, cleanliness, and pricing of electricity supply in Hong Kong are all goals, but details cannot be disclosed as discussions are still ongoing.
In addition, regarding the electric vehicle charging network, Tse Chin-wan revealed that the government holds an open attitude towards battery swapping technology and would welcome any technology that could help expand the usage rate of electric vehicles
