The World Trade Organization panel recommends amending the United States' clean energy tax credits
A panel of experts from the World Trade Organization supported China's complaint on Friday, recommending changes to the U.S. tax credits for clean energy, as China believes these measures discriminate against imported products. The panel's report suggested that the U.S. withdraw the relevant measures under the Inflation Reduction Act by October 1, 2026.
The Office of the United States Trade Representative stated in a statement that the panel's report highlights the long-standing assertion of the Trump administration that existing WTO rules are insufficient to address the significant and harmful overcapacity in many industries, including the energy technology sector.
The U.S. has the right to appeal this decision, but due to the impasse at the WTO's highest appellate court, there will be no final ruling
