Apple intensifies its efforts in video podcasts: a direct challenge to YouTube and Spotify
On February 16, Apple Inc. announced that it will bring a brand new integrated video podcast experience to Apple Podcasts this spring. This move comes as video viewing continues to reshape the podcast industry. According to Edison Research data, approximately 37% of the population aged 12 and older watch video podcasts monthly.
Within the Apple Podcasts app, users will be able to seamlessly switch between "watch" and "listen" modes under the same channel. It will also support picture-in-picture mode and offline downloading of video episodes.
This update aligns Apple Podcasts with Spotify, YouTube, and now Netflix, which is increasingly leaning towards video podcasts
