The world's highest-valued chip giant NVIDIA is returning to the consumer PC market, launching new chip products aimed at laptops, with the goal of extending its technological advantages in artificial intelligence to everyday consumer devices and deeply integrating into the next-generation PC ecosystem.
Major PC manufacturers such as Dell and Lenovo will launch laptops equipped with NVIDIA chips this year. According to The Wall Street Journal, the first PCs using NVIDIA-MediaTek system-on-chip may hit the market in the first half of this year. NVIDIA is also collaborating with Intel, which controls about 70% of the Windows PC chip market.
This strategic layout is not focused on short-term profits. Analysts point out that NVIDIA aims to maintain a connection with consumers in an era where all devices will be equipped with AI capabilities.
The new chips are designed to make PCs lighter and thinner while maintaining long battery life, allowing hardware running the Microsoft Windows operating system to compete more directly with Apple's latest MacBook models. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang noted that approximately 150 million laptops are sold each year, which explains why this field is worth attention.
<h2>Dual Cooperation Strategy to Layout the Market</h2>
NVIDIA has adopted a dual-pronged cooperation strategy in the PC chip field. One is the collaboration with Intel announced last year, which will integrate Intel's central processing units with NVIDIA's graphics and AI technologies.
The other collaboration is with Taiwanese chip design company MediaTek, which was informally disclosed by Jensen Huang during his visit to Taiwan in January this year. According to The Wall Street Journal, sources familiar with NVIDIA's supply chain revealed that PC manufacturers such as Dell Technologies and Lenovo are developing models using the NVIDIA-MediaTek system-on-chip based on the architecture of British chip design company Arm.
Microsoft and NVIDIA have not announced the launch date or sales brands for PCs equipped with NVIDIA chips. However, supply chain sources indicate that the first products may be launched in the first half of this year.
<h2>System-on-Chip Technology Route</h2>
NVIDIA's new PC processors adopt a system-on-chip design, integrating the central processing unit with the company's renowned powerful GPU units. The GPU is the chip that powers AI models.
System-on-chip has become standard in smartphones like the iPhone, but it has not yet become widespread in PCs. NVIDIA's chips aim to provide PCs with the efficiency and battery life typically associated with mobile devices, without sacrificing performance. Huang described it as &#34;low power but very powerful.&#34;
NVIDIA is not new to the system-on-chip business. Its processors have powered devices such as the Nintendo Switch gaming console and earlier versions of Microsoft's Surface tablets. Jensen Huang stated last September, &#34;There is an entire market segment where CPUs and GPUs are integrated together, and this segment is largely one that NVIDIA has not yet ventured into.&#34;

One target group for NVIDIA's PC chips is video game players, who are willing to pay a premium for hardware and are familiar with NVIDIA's position as a leader in the graphics chip field
However, for the collaboration between NVIDIA and MediaTek, the challenge lies in making PCs compatible with high-end games and other applications that were originally designed for Intel standards.
Game compatibility issues could become a significant obstacle for NVIDIA's new chip promotion. Industry insiders point out that ensuring smooth operation of mainstream games and applications while being based on the Arm architecture is a technical challenge that NVIDIA must address.
Pricing strategy is equally critical. The deputy director of TrendForce stated that NVIDIA needs to keep the PC prices built around its chips within the range of $1,000 to $1,500. Otherwise, &#34;it may still be a niche luxury item.&#34;
This price positioning is crucial for NVIDIA's success in the mass market. In the laptop market with annual sales of about 150 million units, only reasonable pricing can help NVIDIA achieve its strategic goal of integrating into the consumer PC ecosystem
