Zentiva, a leading European manufacturer of high-quality and affordable medicines, is responding to the EU Court's decision regarding the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD). The company argues that the directive poses a significant risk to the supply of essential medicines in Europe. Despite concerns from 16 EU member states, the court ruled that Zentiva and other generic drug manufacturers lack the legal standing to challenge the directive. Zentiva's CEO, Steffen Saltofte, emphasized the need for a pause in the directive's implementation to allow for inclusive dialogue among stakeholders to ensure access to affordable medicines while maintaining clean water standards.
