Apple's touchscreen MacBook Pro will introduce the Dynamic Island feature, marking a significant change in the interface.
On February 24, Bloomberg reported, citing informed sources, that Apple plans to launch the first Mac models equipped with a touchscreen later this year, with the specific release date expected around the end of 2026. The devices will feature the Dynamic Island at the center top of the screen and will use the same OLED display technology as the iPhone.
The new MacBook Pro will resemble existing models, including a full-size keyboard and a large touchpad. However, it is reported that the Mac will adopt a completely new dynamic user interface that allows for seamless switching between touch and click input.
For example, if a user touches a button or control, a new menu will pop up around the user's finger, providing more relevant touch operation options. The goal is to offer controls that best match the user's habits based on how they touch or click.
Nevertheless, Apple does not intend to position the new MacBook Pro as a replacement for the iPad, but rather hopes users can freely switch between touch and traditional mouse operations.
<h2>Dynamic Island lands on Mac, OLED screen upgrade in sync</h2>
According to reports citing informed sources, Apple is undergoing a comprehensive redesign of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, internally codenamed K114 and K116, with plans to release them by the end of 2026.
The new models will feature OLED displays, marking the first time Apple has introduced this screen technology into the Mac product line.
The Mac version of Dynamic Island will be built around the camera hole, with a size smaller than the pill-shaped cutout on the current iPhone. Notably, Apple also plans to launch a smaller redesigned Dynamic Island for the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max this year.
The Dynamic Island feature was first introduced in 2022 with the iPhone, capable of displaying notifications, sports scores, media controls, and supporting third-party app integration.
<h2>Software groundwork already laid, strategic shift is significant</h2>
On the software front, Apple has quietly laid the groundwork for this transformation.
The macOS Tahoe &#34;liquid glass&#34; design language launched last year is paving the way for the touchscreen MacBook Pro's market entry. This version has increased spacing for some icons and notifications, and the control center sliders have been optimized for touch.
For decades, Apple has maintained a critical stance on touchscreen laptops, with co-founder Steve Jobs labeling such experiences as &#34;an ergonomic disaster.&#34;
In 2021, Apple's hardware chief John Ternus stated in a media interview that the company had created &#34;the best touchscreen computer&#34; with the iPad and saw no reason to change.
However, as touchscreen operations become increasingly popular on Windows laptops, the deep integration of Apple's cross-platform application ecosystem has created more mature conditions for introducing touch to the Mac.
At the same time, beyond improvements in chip performance, Apple also needs to continuously attract the Mac user base with more differentiated new features. Reports indicate that the related redesign plans were first disclosed as early as 2023
